If your surname is on the list below, you may qualify for a Free Y-DNA test at Back to Our Past 2015. Check the relevant surname on the ISOGG WIki's Free DNA Tests page to see a full description of the offer. If you think you do qualify either contact the Administrator of the project in question or ask at the FTDNA stand at Back to Our Past (RDS, Dublin, Oct 9-11 2015).

why is it they never offer this test for the surname Null, I would love for my cousin to take the test but unless you offer it for my surname I'm unable to afford it. It would sure help out with some brick wall's on the Null spelling.
ReplyDeleteThank You,
Regina Null
You can get discounted prices at http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Project_Pending
DeleteWhy the asterisk (*) besides Barry and a handful of other surnames? Is that the Anglo-Norman branch or the Gaelic branch?
ReplyDeleteMy families name is on there, but how do I get to do the free testing?
ReplyDeleteVisit the ISOGG free DNA test page click on your surname and contact the Admin offering the test.
ReplyDeleteI assume they are interested in atDNA. Do you know if there is any interest for YDNA? I have an Irish relative who is now deceased, but I was able to have his YDNA tested several years ago with a company that was absorbed by ancestry.com. I had 46 markers tested which was an odd selection of markers, but the best that was available at the time. Of course, the DNA was destroyed, but his White paper trail goes back to the before 1800.
ReplyDeleteYou need to email the Admin who has offered the test by going to the ISOGG wiki Free DNA tests page and clicking on your surname to get their email. They usually want Y-DNA as they are surname projects. The company you tested with is probably MyHeritage and you can transfer these markers both to Ysearch and FTDNA. However the 46 markers only correspond to the first 25 markers of the FTDNA panel.
DeleteIf you don't find a surname project that fits, you can order at discount prices from http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Project_Pending
ReplyDeleteMy surname is Riddle, and I am trying to find my genealogy, however I am not a resident of the UK but rather the US. I am unsure what to do.
ReplyDeleteDear Mr Riddle,
ReplyDeleteI am Gail, the Admin for the Riddell/Riddle FTDNA project. As you may have worked out, the project is not offering free basic Y DNA tests for residents of US, but we will certainly welcome your joining us - if you would, please.
To do this, you will need to purchase a test by going to https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/riddle-2
While you are there and before you click on the JOIN button in the banner, feel free to look at anything and everything in the project.
After clicking on the JOIN, you will be taken to a new page where you are asked to purchase a test to join the project.
I recommend two tests, but the male line test is known as a YDNA test, so if that interests you, let us begin with Y67. If you are more interested in starting with the 'cousins' results, then the test to order is 'Family Finder'.
Once the results are back, Jim and I will aid you (he is the other admin).
We look forward to seeing you.
Kind regards
Gail Riddell
